games/events

EVENTS
“Events” are not necessarily plot events in the standard sense (though those will exist!), but instead small 1-3 OOC day long games (or in rarer and more ambitious cases, an OOC week which will be placed out of time IC until completion). They will reward a small amount of gold for participation and a large amount for winning! They are held by mods and players who have first gotten approval from the mods for the game’s mechanics. People who would like to be permanent event runners can submit a full game proposal and we can give them the necessary information to make a game running NPC.

The exact content and format of games can vary wildly. Here’s a few examples of game types which I have stolen from imeeji this is ILLEGAL

War Rooms
A War Rooms game is a game where every unit is locked in a room, without contact with the other units, and given instructions along the lines of: every unit not protected will have the ceiling cave in, killing all of them. Each unit can give protection to one other unit. Characters have three hours to decide amongst themselves who to protect. The winning criteria might simply be survival, or could be awarded to pairs of units that decided to mutually protect each other.

The gameplay is largely in-unit discussion up until the turn-in and results, but the challenge tests interpersonal bonds and priorities, helps cause unit politicking, and gives cause to make friends off-unit so more people will feel well-inclined to protect your unit-- or maybe give cause to the opposite! It's easier to pick if you don't have friends everywhere, after all.

Also, typically these kind of games should end with a revival of the dead. That said, you probably won't come back fully intact.

Social Games
Many social games are more or less party posts; while there should never be too many of them held in a row, social games can act as a breather for characters in between more harrowing events. These might be games where characters are all body-switched and told to figure out who it is that has their body now, or they might be given a bingo sheet full of activities and told to perform the tasks listed to get bingo. Some runners might award every unit that followed the instructions, while others might only award the top half of units with the highest number of activities performed, or the most people who performed the activity.

Discord Tabletop-lite Game
A game might also go off-platform from DWRP and be run on discord. These games will require sign-ups, as they'll be smaller, and if a player who signed up with a character does not show for the game someone else can take their place. These are run more or less as mini-tabletop events, so you might need to fill out stats as asked for before it's time for one too! I've never run one before, but I really want to so I can almost guarantee there will be at least one of these.

This is not a full list of every type of event that may be run and if you’re planning on running something yourself we absolutely encourage experimentation!

If you can’t make every event, which you likely won’t be able to, don’t worry! Since the only reward is gold and that sweet, sweet teambuilding, they’re not essential! Both of those can be gained in plenty of other ways, and if your team wins then everyone on it is rewarded regardless of participation.

As a note, some games will have unsavory or squicky elements: deaths and maimings will be somewhat common, but please let the gamerunner know if you have any hard nos regarding specific things you want to avoid having done to your character!

Events are not voluntary IC. Characters are just poofed via descending bear to whatever shitty zone the event is happening in, and will be locked in until it is finished.
